The Structural Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the safety and integrity of structures, from concept through construction. You’ll collaborate closely with architects, project managers, and other engineers to deliver innovative, sustainable, and code-compliant designs.
This is a full-time position based in Cape Town, offering professional growth, creativity, and global exposure.
⚙️ Key Responsibilities
- 🏗️ Design, analyze, and review structural systems for buildings, bridges, and infrastructure.
- 📐 Prepare detailed engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- 🧩 Collaborate with architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
- 🔍 Conduct structural assessments, site inspections, and feasibility studies.
- 🧱 Ensure compliance with local and international building codes (SANS, Eurocode, BS, ACI).
- 🧮 Perform load calculations, stress analysis, and material optimization.
- 💡 Propose design improvements for safety, cost-efficiency, and sustainability.
- 📊 Review and approve technical documentation, models, and reports.
- ⚡ Support project management in scheduling, budgeting, and risk assessment.
💻 Required Skills & Software Proficiency
- Strong technical knowledge in steel, concrete, and composite structural design.
- Proficiency in key engineering software, including:
- STAAD.Pro / SAP2000 / ETABS
- AutoCAD / Revit (Structural BIM)
- Tekla Structures / Robot Structural Analysis
- SAFE / Prokon / IDEA StatiCa
- Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) and structural dynamics.
- Excellent knowledge of engineering standards, seismic design, and load considerations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
🎓 Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in structural design and analysis.
- Registration or eligibility for ECSA or equivalent professional body preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
