In this critical role, you will be responsible for the analysis, design, and detailing of complex structural systems for a variety of projects, from high-rise towers to unique architectural structures. Key Responsibilities 🎯
- Structural Analysis & Design: Perform analysis and design of structural systems and components in concrete, steel, timber, and masonry using specialized engineering software. 📊
- Project Execution: Manage structural design projects from initial concept and feasibility studies through to detailed design, construction support, and completion.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare and review comprehensive calculation packages, detailed design drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Code Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to the latest Canadian standards and building codes (NBCC, CSA, OBC) and meet all safety and regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to develop integrated, cost-effective, and buildable design solutions.
- Construction Support: Provide technical support during the construction phase, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical oversight to junior engineers and EITs, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Must-Have Skills & Software 🛠️
- 5+ years of dedicated experience in structural analysis and design.
- Professional Designation: Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Software Proficiency (Essential):
- Analysis & Design: Expert-level knowledge of ETABS, SAP2000, and SAFE is required.
- BIM Software: Proficiency with Revit Structure for collaborative design and model coordination.
- Drafting & Detailing: Strong skills in AutoCAD.
- Code Expertise: In-depth knowledge and practical application of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), CSA standards (e.g., CSA A23.3, S16, O86), and Ontario Building Code (OBC).
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of structural mechanics, finite element analysis, and seismic design principles.
Nice-to-Have Skills 🌟
- Experience with design-build or fast-track projects.
- Proficiency with additional analysis software (e.g., RISA, RAM Elements, Tedds).
- Experience with structural assessment, rehabilitation, and retrofit of existing buildings.
- Knowledge of sustainability principles and embodied carbon in structural design.
