📋 Position Overview

KILONEWTONS is seeking a dynamic, analytical, and highly experienced GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER to lead our subsurface engineering, site investigation, and foundation analysis operations in Washington DC 🏛️. In this crucial role, you will evaluate geological conditions, design robust foundation systems, and ensure structural stability for our heavy industrial, infrastructure, and commercial developments across the Mid-Atlantic region. Your engineering expertise will provide the solid groundwork upon which our projects rise.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

  • Subsurface Investigations: Plan, execute, and supervise comprehensive geotechnical site characterizations, core drilling programs, and in-situ field testing. ⛏️
  • Soil & Rock Mechanics Analysis: Evaluate physical and mechanical properties of soils and rock formations, including shear strength, settlement potential, liquefaction, and bearing capacities under heavy loads. 📊
  • Foundation & Earthwork Engineering: Design safe, cost-effective, and durable deep/shallow foundations, retaining walls, shoring systems, and slope stabilization structures. 📐
  • Risk & Settlement Modeling: Perform advanced numerical analyses to predict structural settlement, groundwater seepage, and earth pressure distributions. ⚠️
  • Technical Reporting: Author detailed geotechnical baseline reports, foundation recommendation manuals, and earthwork specifications for project stakeholders. 📝
  • Cross-Disciplinary Coordination: Partner seamlessly with structural engineers, civil teams, and construction project managers to integrate sub-grade designs with master structural blueprints. 🤝
  • Regulatory & Code Compliance: Ensure all geotechnical fieldwork and structural support designs comply strictly with US building codes, local Washington DC zoning regulations, and OSHA safety standards. 🛡️

🛠️ Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on geotechnical engineering experience within the heavy construction, civil infrastructure, or industrial sector. ⏱️
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred. 🎓
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced command of industry-standard geotechnical software, including Plaxis (2D/3D), GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W), gINT, alongside AutoCAD and Revit (for spatial drafting) and STAAD.Pro or Tekla Structures (for cross-referencing superstructure loads transferred to foundations). 💻
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of soil-structure interaction, foundation engineering principles, regional Mid-Atlantic geology, and earth retention systems. 🏗️
