📋 Position Overview

KILONEWTONS is seeking a dynamic, highly technical, and experienced TUNNEL ENGINEER to spearhead our subterranean infrastructure, underground excavation, and heavy civil engineering operations in Mumbai 🚇. In this critical role, you will design, plan, and oversee the excavation, support, and structural lining of complex tunnels for transportation, utility, and heavy industrial networks. Your engineering expertise will drive our subterranean projects safely through challenging geological strata with absolute precision.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

  • Subsurface & Tunnel Design: Engineer comprehensive underground structures, including tunnel alignments, excavation sequences, portal designs, and permanent structural linings. 🗺️
  • Geotechnical & Structural Integration: Partner with geotechnical teams to analyze rock/soil mechanics, groundwater pressures, and overburden loads to determine optimal tunneling methods (TBM, NATM, or cut-and-cover). 📊
  • Support System Engineering: Design temporary and permanent ground support systems, including shotcrete, rock bolts, steel ribs, lattices, and segment rings. 🛡️
  • Cross-Disciplinary Coordination: Collaborate closely with structural engineers, geotechnical specialists, and construction crews to integrate MEP services, ventilation, and drainage systems into tunnel master blueprints. 🤝
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all tunneling operations comply strictly with Indian standards, international underground safety codes, environmental regulations, and occupational health protocols. 📜
  • Risk & Settlement Monitoring: Monitor ground subsidence, structural displacement, and instrumentation data (inclinometers, piezometers) during active excavation to mitigate risks. ⚠️
  • Technical Documentation & Reporting: Author detailed calculation notes, technical specifications, risk assessments, and progress reports for project stakeholders. 📝

🛠️ Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on tunneling or underground heavy civil engineering experience within the infrastructure, metro rail, or subterranean construction sector. ⏱️
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Tunneling Engineering. 🎓
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced command of industry-standard geotechnical and structural design software, including Plaxis (2D/3D), Midas GTS NX, FLAC, AutoCAD and Revit (for spatial modeling), alongside STAAD.Pro or Tekla Structures (for structural load analysis of tunnel segments and portals). 💻
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operations, New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), rock mechanics, and hydrogeological control. ⛏️
  • Language Skills: Professional proficiency in English; local language skills (Marathi/Hindi) are an advantage for site crew coordination. 🗣️
