📋 Position Overview

KILONEWTONS is seeking a highly skilled, analytical, and detail-oriented SOIL MECHANICS ENGINEER to lead our geotechnical and subsurface engineering operations in Mexico 🇲🇽. In this vital role, you will evaluate soil properties, design robust foundation systems, and ensure structural stability for our heavy industrial, civil, and infrastructure projects. Your expertise will form the literal and figurative bedrock of our most challenging engineering undertakings.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

  • Geotechnical Site Investigations: Plan, execute, and supervise comprehensive subsurface investigations, soil sampling programs, and in-situ field testing procedures. ⛏️
  • Soil & Rock Mechanics Analysis: Evaluate physical and mechanical properties of soils, including shear strength, consolidation, permeability, and bearing capacity under heavy structural loads. 📊
  • Foundation & Earthwork Design: Engineer safe, cost-effective, and durable deep/shallow foundations, retaining structures, excavation supports, and slope stabilization systems. 📐
  • Risk & Settlement Assessments: Perform complex calculations and modeling to predict structural settlement, liquefaction potential, and slope stability risks across diverse geological profiles. ⚠️
  • Technical Reporting: Author comprehensive geotechnical reports, specification documents, foundation recommendation briefs, and risk mitigation strategies for project stakeholders. 📝
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Partner closely with structural engineers, project managers, and construction teams to align sub-grade designs with overarching blueprint requirements and load specifications. 🤝
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure all geotechnical fieldwork and earthwork execution comply strictly with local Mexican building codes, international engineering standards, and environmental regulations. 🛡️

🛠️ Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on geotechnical or soil mechanics engineering experience within the civil infrastructure, heavy construction, or industrial sector. ⏱️
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. 🎓
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced command of industry-standard geotechnical and structural design software, including Plaxis (2D/3D finite element modeling), GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W), AutoCAD and Revit (for spatial layout and integration), alongside STAAD.Pro or Tekla Structures for analyzing structural loads transferred to foundations. 💻
  • Field Expertise: Proven experience operating field-testing equipment, core drilling oversight, and laboratory soil mechanics testing protocols. 🔬
  • Language Skills: Professional proficiency in English; Spanish language skills (spoken and written) are essential for local site coordination and regulatory filings. 🗣️
